Independent - Domino Records
Domino Recording Company (colloquially known as 'Domino') is an independent recording company based in London, with a wing based in Brooklyn, New York which is responsible for U.S. releases. It also has German and French divisions. Domino owns a subsidiary label, Geographic Music, which works with more experimental and unusual music, largely from outside the western world.
In 2011, the label decided to look into launching 'The Domino Press', a book publishing division.
The label was founded in 1993 by Laurence Bell and Jacqui Rice (seen in this photograph). The majority of their early releases were American artists signed to Drag City (at the same time for U.S. releases) looking for UK distribution. This relationship has been maintained to this day.
The label's success was held back during the Britpop era due to their redistribution of American music. Regardless, Domino finally grew thanks to a steady increase in signings with groups such as Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, Jon Hopkins and Tricky.
Domino's distributors are Redeye (in the US); PIAS Group (in the UK and Ireland); Outside Music (in Canada) and Hostess/Sony (in Japan).
Domino's subsidiary labels include Geographic Music; Double Six Records; Weird World and Rekords Rekords.
The label mostly handles their own advertising (a form of vertical integration), but sometimes may partner with their distributors (a form of horizontal integration).
Also I need an extension.
