Public Service Broadcaster - BBC
The BBC has a legal requirement to broadcast programming to 'inform, educate and entertain' the British public. This is as they, as a Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) are paid for by the government through the TV License collected from the public. This duty applies to the company's various TV and radio channels, and by extension their online TV on demand services, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
They also aim to provide content of the highest quality in terms of accuracy, presentation and editing. They also aim to provide educational content through their children's programming, as well as content that features and showcases a broad, diverse range of cultures and ethnic groups. Their content must be unbiased and help 'contribute to the social cohesion and wellbeing of the United Kingdom'.
Its news coverage must be presented in such a way so as to be 'firmly based on British values of accuracy, impartiality, and fairness'.
